Uzbek Labour Minister holds talks with head of UNICEF Country Office

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov held a meeting with the head of the UNICEF Country Office in Uzbekistan Robert Fuderich on 30 September 2015.
The meeting was initiated by the UNICEF and was held in concrete and constructive character, the press service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population said.
Robert Fuderich underlined that in line with the programme of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNICEF, the organization contributes to strengthening health of mothers and children, promotion of healthy nutrition, HIV prevention, further improving quality of pre-school and beginning of education. He noted that currently the programme of cooperation for 2010-2015 will be completed soon and new five-year programme is developed. The UNICEF will focus on national priority and Convention on child rights, as well as experience of mutual cooperation within realization of new programme for 2016-2020.
The Uzbek minister informed the guest that about 40% of population of Uzbekistan are children under age of 18 and the state policy on ensuring right of children is priority. Uzbekistan ratified the Convention of Child Rights in December 1992. Uzbekistan became the first Central Asian state, which undertook obligation to realize the convention.
It was noted that Ministry has six boarding schools for children with the disabilities. The vulnerable children receive medical aid and social support.
Fuderic noted that 2015 was responsible and fruitful for UNICEF. The organization expands cooperation with the state and public organizations of Uzbekistan, as well as structural divisions of the UN to ensure rights and interests of the children. He expressed hope that fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population within the new Country Programme with the UNDP.
