Uzbek, Turkmen Presidents hold negotiations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov held negotiations with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on 8 October 2015.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in Uzbekistan on 7 October 2015 with a two-day official visit on invitation of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
Islam Karimov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed current state and perspectives of further development of cooperation between two states and exchanged opinion on actual issues of regional and international character at the face-to-face talks, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.
President Islam Karimov noted that the visit of the Turkmen President is an important political event in history of bilateral relation of two states and serves as evidence on dynamic development of good-neighborhood cooperation.
Turkmen leader expressed gratitude to the Uzbek counterpart for invitation and said that cooperation between two states is developing gradually.
Two leaders exchanged opinion on situation in Afghanistan and noted that it is impossible to establish peace in the country with military power. The sides also discussed fighting such threats as terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking.
Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan also have single position on use of water of the trans-boundary rivers. It was noted that water-energy issues should be solved in line with general norms and principles of international law.
During the talks with participation of the delegations of two states, the sides considered development of trade-economic, investment and cultural cooperation.
Trade turnover between two states grew three times in last six years and reached US$413 million in 2014. It made up US$245 million in January-August 2015.
Uzbekistan exports vehicles, mineral fertilizers, agriculture products, construction materials, mechanical equipment and other products and services to Turkmenistan. Uzbekistan imports from Turkmenistan such products as oil, chemical products, etc.
At the negotiations, the sides discussed issues of increasing trade turnover, number of joint ventures and developing cooperation among businesspeople. The cooperation in culture, sport and science were also discussed.
After the talks, Islam Karimov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a joint communiqué.
The Governments, ministries and departments of two states signed documents on developing relations in economy, transport, customs, tourism, science, healthcare and sport.
