Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In the period from 21 September to 2 October 2015, Warsaw hosted Annual Meeting of the OSCE implementation of obligations, devoted to the Human Dimension.
Annual two-week meeting held in Warsaw since 1998. Its organizer - the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
The event - the largest European meeting on human rights and democracy. Its purpose is to discuss the major challenges faced by the Member States of the OSCE in the field of protection, respect and support human rights and fundamental freedoms and building a civil society, as well as perspectives on the human dimension in order to clarify and further development of commitments in this area, Jahon news agency reported.
This year, the meeting has been attended by delegations from all 57 OSCE participating States and partner countries, experts from the OSCE institutions and field missions, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations, non-governmental structures. Its work has been was held in the framework of two plenary sessions and 18 working meetings.
The delegation included representatives of our country’s Supreme Court, the National Centre for Human Rights, the Public Fund for support of the print media and news agencies of Uzbekistan, as well as other departments. They acquainted the participants with the ongoing large-scale reforms in the country aimed at building a democratic state and the formation of a strong civil society.
Special attention is paid in our country, the adjusted effective partnership between the state and civil society institutions, with particular emphasis on the role of the latter in the protection of human rights and freedoms.
Great interest among the OSCE member countries caused by the information relating to ongoing work to reform the system and liberalization of the judicial system in a democratic manner. There have been marked successes achieved to further strengthen the independence of the judiciary, improving the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in protecting the interests of citizens. Separately emphasized introduction to the practice of our country institute "habeas corpus", including the transfer of the court to issue sanctions for arrest as a preventive measure.
The meeting was also informed in detail about security in Uzbekistan, freedom of the press and information, the gradual development of the media, which play an important role in maintaining the transparency and openness of ongoing socio-political and socio-economic reforms.
The presentation of the new legislation adopted in the country in recent years within the framework of the Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society in the country.
An important theme of performances of the Uzbek delegation were the results of the measures implemented in the country to combat human trafficking, social rehabilitation and legal protection of victims of this evil.
In addition, presents information on the successive measures to ensure inter-ethnic harmony in Uzbekistan, full support for the activities of national cultural centers, whose number exceeds 140. It was noted that the country has created equal conditions for representatives of more than 130 nations and nationalities living on Uzbek soil. It was emphasized that the state pays special attention to the preservation and further development of their culture, traditions and customs.
