UN Country Office opens eco-park in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The UN Country Office in Uzbekistan created an eco-park in the territory of National Park named after Alisher Navoi in Tashkent on 20 October.
Over 200 employees of the UN agencies in Uzbekistan participated in the ecological campaign, which kicked off series of events dedicated to the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the UN.
The campaign was held in cooperation with Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan and at the support of Tashkent city administration.
The UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Mr. Stefan Priesner said the UN creates its first eco-park in Central Asia. He said that the UN does everything to comply with the “Strong UN. Better World.”
Head of Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan Boriy Alihanov said that the Movement has created 25 eco-parks across Uzbekistan with total area of 120 hectares in 7 years.
Boriy Alihanov and Stefan Priesner planted the first tree. During the event, the participants planted hundreds of trees, including those, included to Red Book of Uzbekistan.
It is worth to mention that the UN agencies undertook to take care after the eco-park, which will contribute to green development of Uzbekistan.
