Uzbekistan attends SCO meeting in Chendu

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10-12 November 2015, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the next meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, dedicated to the prevention and elimination of emergency situations, in Chendu city (PRC).
Within the implementation of agreement among the SCO member states on interaction at rendering aid at liquidation of emergency situations from 2015, heads of corresponding ministries and departments from Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan considered issues of reaction to natural and man-caused emergency situations.
The Uzbek delegation noted that along with other states, Uzbekistan also faces with threats of emergency situations. It was noted that Uzbekistan recorded the movement of the landslide at the volume of 480-500,000 cubic meters. As a result, the real threat to 67 farms in the area of Honzhiza village in Uzun district of Surkhandarya region, the residences were relocated to safe places and benchmarks for continuous monitoring of the landslide movement were set. The country also set observation posts in the landslide zone.
At the territory of Uzbekistan, there were also mudflows, some of which resulted to material damages.
Speaking with emergency situations related to ecology, the problems on drying of Aral Sea and related consequences were underlined. The tragedy of Aral Sea, which is on the brink of extinction, today continues to be the center of attention of the international community. Currently, the water receded from the port Muinak for 150 kilometers.
In the result of drying of the sea resulted in dramatic change of climate, which is felt not only in Central Asia and other regions. New salt desert areas for 5.5 million hectares appeared in the Aral Sea. Over 90 days a year, there are dust storms, which spread over 100 million tonnes of dust and toxic salts to atmosphere.
It was underlined that consequences of unfavourable ecologic situation impacts not only Uzbekistan or countries of Central Asia, but negatively impacts to all international community.
It is important for Uzbekistan to achieve corresponding agreements with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on conducting air-visual research of mountain and sub-mountain areas at the trans-boundary territories, which are sources for possible threat of population and economic objects of these two states and Uzbekistan.
Implementing of annual measures directed at fighting locust remains an actual as it is important to coordinate and cooperate of the states to ensure efficiency of these measures.
According to the Uzbek side, interaction on above-mention directions are important factors to ensure stability and security, creation of favourable conditions to expansion of partnership among the SCO member states in prevention and liquidation of emergency situations.
