Uzbekistan plans to launch Turakurgan TPS in 2017

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First phase of the project on construction of Turakurgan thermal power station (TPS) will be commissioned in 2017, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said during his visit to Namangan.
Uzbek leader recalled that construction of Turakurgan thermal power station is carried out in Namangan region. He said that in the first stage, in 2017, it is planned to commission two modern combined cycle power facilities with a capacity of 450 MW each. He noted that the construction of the station is carried out with high speed now.
President Islam Karimov said that in the second stage, in 2020, it is planned to launch two more such facilities. At the same time, Islam Karimov did not disclose the capacity of turbines or the cost of the second phase of the project.
Due to the implementation of such ambitious projects, Uzbekistan will be able to fully meet the electricity demand of economy and population, not only of Namangan region, but the whole Fergana Valley, and on this basis to organize new production facilities, the President of Uzbekistan said.
Uzbekenergo started construction of Turakurgan thermal power station in Namangan region in 2013.
The first phase of the project is valued at over US$1 billion and financed due to loans of international financial institutions, loans of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, as well as own resources of Uzbekenergo.
Construction of the plant will allow to produce 6.8 billion KWH of electricity, which will help to meet growing demand of Ferghana Valley in electricity, including to realize new projects in textile, food, pharmaceutical, construction materials, small and private businesses sector.
