Banks purchase currency from population for US$200 million

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Population of Uzbekistan sold US$200 million hard currency to commercial banks from 5 to 12 September 2017, the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank, Timur Ishmetov said on 14 September.
Since the opening of the conversion (5 September), legal entities (exporters) have sold about US$100 million hard currency, he said.
Timur Ishmetov said that all these funds banks were put up for sale on the currency exchange. At the same time, he noted that the demand for foreign currency from legal entities is over US$100 million.
The representative of the Central Bank noted that now mainly citizens and enterprises sell currency. He added that currency buyers are now slightly smaller, but their number is also gradually increasing.
Ishmetov noted that the Central Bank of Uzbekistan will participate in currency trading to prevent volatility of the exchange rate.
