Uzbekistan highly values contribution of Koreans to socio-economic development of country

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan highly values contribution of the Koreans to the social and economic development of the country - the build-up of industrial and agricultural potential, progress in science, education, healthcare, and other spheres. This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his message to the participants of the solemn event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the residence of Koreans in Uzbekistan.
On Friday, 17 November 2017, the event was held in Tashkent dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the residence of Koreans in Uzbekistan.
“In the thirties of the last century - a difficult time full of hardships and privations - persecuted by a harsh political system, tens of thousands of Koreans from the Far East found themselves on Uzbek soil. The people of Uzbekistan with sincere generosity participate in the fate of the Koreans, who were here, warmed and sheltered them on their land, "the Uzbek leader said in his message.
"Due to their diligence, vitality, cohesion and discipline, love for the land, and the similarity of our mentality and culture, the Koreans have found their second homeland here, have become its worthy sons and daughters, equal and respected citizens of multinational Uzbekistan, who rightly are pride of our people,” the President stressed.
“We highly appreciate the contribution of the Koreans to the social and economic development of the country - the build-up of industrial and agricultural potential, progress in science, education, healthcare, and other spheres,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
"They took an active part in the development of the steppes, cultivated virgin lands in difficult conditions, showed themselves as talented farmers and created farms that later became one of the most advanced,” he said.
"The valiant and selfless work of our Korean compatriots, their creative activities aimed at the comprehensive progress and prosperity of Uzbekistan, have entered a bright page in the history of our country’s achievements,” the President noted.
"And it is quite natural that 283 representatives of the Korean diaspora are awarded high state awards and titles, very many enjoy great prestige in our society,” he said.
"Among them - deputies and members of the government, honored workers of science, culture and art, highly qualified specialists,” he said, naming some othem.
“Today, more than 200,000 Koreans live in Uzbekistan. It should be noted that many of them speak the Uzbek language, they know our culture well, and we see this as a sign of great respect for the Uzbek people,” Mirziyoyev said.
He added that the Korean diaspora is an integral part of the multinational people of Uzbekistan and traditionally actively participates in all public and cultural events held in the country.
“In June 2017, the Korean diaspora in the Tashkent Friendship Garden erected a monument as a token of gratitude for the tolerance, warmth and care, peaceful and peaceful life in the land of Uzbekistan,” the head of state said.
"In our country, along with representatives of other nations and nationalities, the Koreans have all the conditions for preserving and developing the national culture, language, traditions and customs. For example, the Uzbek State University of World Languages, the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies and the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages are teaching Korean philology,” he added.
He underlined great work is carried out by the Association of Korean Cultural Centers of the Republic in this direction. Books and newspapers are published in Korean, exhibitions, concerts, festivals, tours of creative groups in Uzbekistan and abroad, various sports among the youth are held, the President said.
According to him, at present, the House of Korean Culture and Art is being built in Tashkent with the assistance of the Government of the Republic of Korea. “I think that it will become a bright symbol of our friendship, a place of attraction for young people and intellectuals, a center for mutual enrichment of our cultures,” he said.
“We in Uzbekistan attach great importance to the development of multifaceted cooperation with the Republic of Korea, and the Korean diaspora contributes to this great contribution,” the President said.
"A high-level visit to the Republic of Korea is planned in the near future, during which the issues of further expansion of the strategic partnership of the two countries, including the implementation of new joint projects, will be considered,” the President said.
“Dear participants in the celebrations, I want to sincerely thank you and in your person all representatives of the Korean diaspora for selfless and conscientious work for the benefit of our common home - native Uzbekistan. I wish you all good health, new successes, family happiness and prosperity,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
