Uzbek MFA hosts talks with Amnesty International delegations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 May 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with a delegation of the international non-governmental organization Amnesty International led by Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Marie Struthers.
The conversation focused on promising areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Amnesty International, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
Marie Struthers and her colleagues shared their impressions of the meetings, held in Tashkent with the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Supreme Court, a number of ministries and departments, and representatives of a number of non-governmental and non-profit organizations.
At the meeting in the Foreign Ministry, it was noted that Uzbekistan has no issues that it is planned to hide or exclude from the agenda of discussion with Amnesty International.
In Uzbekistan, work is consistently carried out to humanize the judicial system, there is a departure from traditional, mostly repressive measures to counteract radicalism. More attention is paid to prevention, employment, social rehabilitation, education and upbringing.
As it was stressed, Uzbekistan is determined not to dwell on its achievements, it intends to continue to make purposeful efforts in the sphere of ensuring human rights.
