Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Consular Section of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Russia is providing consular and legal assistance to a citizen of Uzbekistan, Marufjon Shakarov, who was detained and accused for selling drugs.
As part of the provision of consular and legal assistance, the Consular section directed official appeals to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the judicial bodies of Moscow, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
As a result, on 14 June 2018, the Moscow city Court reviewed the appeal and the imprisonment period was decreased from 10 to 5 years.
On 14 July 2018, a telephone conversation took place between the employee of the consular section of the Embassy and the leadership of the SIZO-1 FSIN of Moscow, from which it became known that Mr Shakarov went on a hunger strike, in connection with which, according to the established procedure, he was transferred to a solitary cell with round-the-clock video surveillance .
Every day, the management of the SIZO conducts a conversation with him, and the doctor examines the convicted person. Mr Shakarov does not need emergency medical care. In the near future, the mother and aunt of Shakarov will receive a chance to meet with him.
After the entry into force of the verdict of the court, which approved the decision of the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Moscow City Court, consent may be granted to a meeting of the consular officer with Marufjon Shakarov.
The Consular Section of the Embassy keeps this issue under control.
