Delegation of Shanghai held a meeting in Tashkent city administration

Tashkent, Uzbekistan ( -- A delegation from the People’s Republic of China headed by the General Secretary of the Shanghai Political and Legal Commission Cheng In is in Uzbekistan, the press service of the capital’s khokimiyat said in a statement.

Today, the capital’s khokimiyat hosted a meeting with representatives of the Chinese delegation, where issues of joint development of agriculture were discussed. In particular, the Chinese side plans to implement a number of projects in Uzbekistan, such as fishing, growing nuts and dried fruits.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that our countries closely cooperate in key sectors of the economy and in the long term intend to bring the trade turnover up to US$20 billion. In Uzbekistan, more than 700 enterprises with the participation of investors from China operate, an Uzbek-Chinese trading house was opened in Tashkent and the Association of Chinese Industrial and Commercial Enterprises operates.

Also, representatives of the khokimiyat noted that in 1994 Tashkent and Shanghai became sister cities and that in 2019 we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of this significant event. China was one of the first in the world to recognize the independence of Uzbekistan and opened its embassy here.

The Uzbek side assured the Chinese guests that they can count on the assistance of the Tashkent khokimiyat in implementation of the conceived projects and expressed the hope that this visit will serve further promotion of the Uzbek-Chinese ties.
