Chairman of Verkhovna Rada: Working relationships between Ukraine and Uzbekistan have significant untapped potential

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic Uzbekistan to Ukraine Alisher Abdualiev discussed the issue of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Uzbekistan, particularly in regard to activating inter-parliamentary as well as trade and economic cooperation during their meeting on Wednesday, the press service of Ukrainian parliament said.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that Ukraine and Uzbekistan are united by long-standing friendly relations. Both countries have lots of common views on the current international situation, particularly, on non-proliferation of nuclear arms, combating terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking and illegal migration. He appreciated success of Uzbekistan in all spheres and, especially, positive development dynamics of its national economy.
Volodymyr Rybak stressed that Ukraine is determined to activate relations with the Republic of Uzbekistan. In this context, according to him, regular meetings at the highest level that determine further development dynamics of bilateral relations and allow find mutually acceptable ways to settle topical cooperation problems are of top priority importance. The Chairman of the Parliament underlined that the Ukrainian Party attaches special attention to the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan that will take place in the nearest time. “This visit shall be an important factor intensifying Ukrainian-Uzbek cooperation,” he said.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that the issue of holding Eighth Meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Comprehensive Cooperation, the latter meeting of which was held in 2007, is on the agenda of bilateral relations today.
Volodymyr Rybak stood for further activation of inter-parliamentary cooperation, particularly, at the level of parliament leaders, friendship groups, and committee chairmen, etc. In this context, he informed that the group on inter-parliamentary relations with the Republic of Uzbekistan, involving 30 people’s deputies, has been established in the Ukrainian Parliament.
Talking of trade and economic cooperation, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada highly appreciated the achieved level of business interaction and noted that Ukraine and Uzbekistan possess significant reserves in this direction. “Dynamics of working relationships testifies to significant unrealized potential,” he said.
In his turn, Alisher Abdualiev thanked the Ukrainian Party for the support of Uzbekistan in regard to joining the Free Trade Zone that took place in May this year. He addressed with a request to accelerate ratification of this Agreement by the Ukrainian Parliament.
He also conveyed the wish of the Uzbek Party to time the event of opening the monument to Alisher Navoiy to coincide with the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Ukraine.
