US delegation pays visit to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the United States led by Deputy Assistant State Secretary on democracy, human rights, and labor Jane B. Zimmerman held negotiations with Human Rights Commissionaire of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (Ombudsman) Sayyora Rashidova on 15 July 2013.
At the meeting, the sides underlined that relations between Uzbekistan and the United States are developing in all directions, including in developing institutions of civil society and protection of human rights, UzA reported.
During the negations it was noted Ombudsman of Uzbekistan has been developing cooperation with Ombudspersons of other countries, which helps to deepen democratic reforms in Uzbekistan and expands partnership relations with international human rights institutions.
Jane Zimmerman said that cooperation in human rights occupies important role in international relations of the United States. She said that the US is happy with gradual development of cooperation with Uzbekistan in his direction. She said that the delegation had chance to familiarize with work, conducted in Uzbekistan in protection of human rights and freedoms.
It was noted that activities of Ombudsman and its bodies in cooperation with internal affairs and judicial bodies on protection of human rights are giving their fruits.
The sides underlined that there are all opportunities to strengthen relations in this direction and agreed to boost cooperation.
The US delegation also held negotiations at the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Uzbekistan.
