Implementation of UN Convention on climate change discussed in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on international affairs and inter-parliamentary relations held an expended session on results of control-analytical activity on execution of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (New York, 9 May 1992) in Kashkadarya, Tashkent and Ferghana regions on 24 July.
MPs of Legislative Chamber, secialists of the Uzgidromet Center, Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management, Ministry of Economy, Uzbekneftegaz, State Committee on nature protection, Uzbekneftegaz, Uzbekenergo, Uzkimyosanoat, administrations of Kashkadrya, Tashkent and Ferghana regions and others participated at the meeting.
Uzbekistan jointed to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change on 20 June 1993 and ratified Kyoto Protocol of the Convention. Uzbekistan created legal base on nature protection, which reflects clauses of the Convention. Uzbekistan adheres to the Convention based on its national interests.
Uzbekistan implements several projects on decreasing emission of greenhouse gas within the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of Kyoto Protocol based on the resolutions and decisions of the president and the government of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan significantly cut emission of greenhouse gas due to modernization of enterprises of chemical, oil and gas and energy industries. Industrial enterprises are also working on decreasing use of energy and fuel to cut emission of greenhouse gas.
The country carries out a complex of measures on adaptation of agriculture sector to climate change. Uzbekistan also adopted measures to decrease loss of water due to introduction of water saving technologies. The country also introduces renewable energy to cut expenses greenhouse gas emission. Uzbekistan also introduces bio gas facilities, developed at Ferghanaazot, Maxam-Chirchiq and Uzbekhimmash.
Uzbekistan develops cooperation with developed countries and implements projects, financed due to the Small Grants of the Global Environment Fund (GEF) on introduction of water saving technologies and renewable energy. The UNDP, GEF and WHO also realize several projects in Uzbekistan.
The session participants expressed their proposals on effective use of norms of the Convention, further improvement of legislation directed at protection climate system, develop cooperation, etc.
The session adopted a corresponding decision of the committee.
