Uzbek-Chinese business forum takes place in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An Uzbek-Chinese business forum was held in Tashkent on 27 November 2013 within the visit of the delegation of business circles of China led by Deputy Chairman of the SCO Committee for Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Zhan Deguan to Uzbekistan. The several bilateral agreements were signed in the result of the business forum.
The event was attended by heads of ministries and other government agencies, companies and corporations of Uzbekistan and China responsible for foreign economic ties, banking and finance, machine building, aircraft engineering, high technologies, textile and light industry, air shipping, energy sector, hydrocarbons, exports and imports, manufacturing of construction materials and carriages, pharmaceuticals, commerce and industry, investments, transport and transport communications, electric and technical appliances, chemical, furniture, and mining industries, information technologies and telecommunications, software production, tourism and logistics.
“China has been attaching a particular significance to the promotion of practical cooperation with Uzbekistan,” says the Deputy Chairman of the SCO Committee for Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Zhan Deguan. “Currently, the interaction between our two countries has been advancing steadily and with good pace. Our partnership in such spheres as power sector, agriculture, mineral resources, machine building and manufacturing industry has splendid prospects.”
At the forum, the Chinese guests received information on opportunities and preferences, created at economic zones Navoi, Angren and Jizzakh.
Several investments agreements directed at further expanding mutual beneficial cooperation in various areas were signed after the forum.
China is one of the leading trade-economic partners of Uzbekistan. Two countries signed over 170 documents, which creates legal base for cooperation.
It was underlined that over 50 agreements for over US$20 billion were signed between Uzbekistan and China in the result of the visit of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to China in June 2012 and Chinese President Xi Jinping to Uzbekistan in September 2013. This lay firm base for economic cooperation. In last five years, bilateral trade turnover of Uzbekistan and China rose from US$904 million in 2007 to US$3.2 billion in 2012. In nine months of 2013, the trade turnover between two nations rose by 60.8% year-on-year to US$3.562 billion.
China invested over US$6.5 billion into Uzbekistan and became one of the largest investors. Currently, there are 488 enterprises with Chinese investments in Uzbekistan. Chinese firms also participate in implementation of investment projects in Uzbekistan.
Chinese firms also started to implement new projects at Jizzakh special economic zone with total investments of over US$30 million.
