IFIs finance several investment projects in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Several investment projects are implemented in Tashkent with the participation of international financial institutes (IFIs).
Tashkent city will implement energy-efficient technologies in street lightening. Islamic Development Bank issued a loan to Toshshaharnur to finance the project.
Narodnoye slovo newspaper reported that over 116,000 energy-intensive mercury and sodium lamps will be installed to Tashkent streets.
The worls will be conducted within 2013-2015. This will help to save US$3 million within 15 years, including three-year period.
Another project envisages improvement of sewerage system of Tashkent city. It is implemented by the local administration and stipulates improvement of the system on cleaning sewerage via construction of sewage collector with the length of 6.5 km, modernization of three municipal wastewater treatment plants - Salar, and Bozsu Bektemir.
Within the project, it is planned to purchase excavators, cranes, trucks and other special equipment. It is planned to buy a lab to analyze sewerage.
The project is financed due to resources of the Islamic Development Bank for US$35.4 million. Currently, the vendors are supplies equipment to implement the project. Preparation to announce tender for purchase of equipment of three sewerage cleaning stations and construction of sewerage collectors is underway. The tender procedures will be completed in early 2014.
Two projects on energy saving in heating supply in Tashkent is underway. The first project envisages installation of four gas-turbine facilities with the capacity of 24 megawatt at Tashkent thermal center No. 4. It also envisages construction of gas compressor stations and new distribution network 110 kV, sub-station and electricity supply lines.
The preliminary cost of the project estimated at US$167.3 million. New generating capacities for 108 megawatt will be installed in Tashkent in the result of the project, which will help to produce 946 million KWH of electricity. It will also help to save 168 million cubic meters of gas a year or about US$42 million.
The second project stipulates transfer of thermal station No. 8 to close scheme of heating supply (1 stage) and it is developed in cooperation with the World Bank. It is planned to reconstruct boilers and update old equipment, installation of heating meters, etc. The preliminary cost of the project is US$69.5 million. It will help to cut heating energy at the volume of 134,100 Gcal a year and decrease emission.
Another project, directed at modernization of city communal services, improve ecology and sanitary-epidemiology situation of Tashkent city, is a project on modernization of solid waste.
The project will be directed at cutting the volume of waste and their processing for secondary use, modernize system of collecting and processing of solid waste, etc. The project will be implemented in 2014-2018.
Total cost of the project is US$75 million and the Asian Development Bank will issue US$69 million. It is planned to improve Ahangaran sanitary sight, reconstruct solid waste management system of Tashkent city, etc.
The memorandum of understanding on the project was signed between the Government of Uzbekistan and ADB. The talks on implementation of the project were also held.
