Aral Sea project participants share stake of KNOC

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Participants of the consortium Aral Sea shared the stake of the South Korean KNOC equally in the joint venture, which carries out exploration at the Uzbek part of the Aral Sea, neftegaz.ru reported.
Currently, Russia’s LUKOIL, Uzbekistan’s Uzbekneftegaz and China’s CNPC hold the equal share in the joint venture.
The PSA for the Aral block was signed in August 2006 for 35 years and took effect in January 2007. The PSA was signed in Auguest 2006. The project is implemented by Uzbekneftegaz National Holding Company, LUKOIL Overseas, CNPC International (China), and KNOC Aral (Korea). Petronas Carigali SDN BHD (Malaysia) was part of the project, but pulled out in May 2011.
In 2011, the consortium of the investors fully implemented a programme on geological survey, envisaged with the PSA within preliminary investments for US$110.2 million.
The consortium carried out 2D seismic survey and revealed six perspective structures, one of which is Western Aral. According to estimates, the field has reserves for 11 billion cubic meters of as.
New stage of geological exploration works will be carried out till mid of 2016 and includes 3D seismic works and drilling of an exploration well in 2015, as well as two wells based on the result of exploration drilling.
