Member of Executive Committee of Political Council of the UzLiDeP Ravshan Ahunov said that elections are part of democratic country with strong civil society and main form of expressing will of people. The parliamentary elections, which will be held on 21 December, will be held in new conditions as Central Election Commission received status of independent constitutional body, which is formed by the parliament.
In last 10 years, Uzbekistan introduced several changes and amendments to election legislation. In particular, the country relaxed limits for collection of signature to support the participation of the party in parliamentary elections – from 50,000 to 40,000 voters. The institute of authorized representative of the political party was formed and they can participate in counting of votes, review of signature sheets. Number of authorized persons of the candidates was increased from 5 to 10.
Ahunov said that all these changes allow the party, which have over 232,000 members and over 9,500 preliminary party organizations, can execute requirements of the legislation on collection of signatures and send its observers and authorized persons to electoral districts.
He said that primary party organizations in Tashkent collected over 6,000 signatures and major of them visited the primary party organizations to put their signatures.
