Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First online crowdfunding platform MFond.uz was launched in Uzbekistan on 29 September. The platform is a tool for school principles to attract donations for development of the material and technical base of educational institutions, which will ensure transparency and accountability for use of attracted financial resources.
The presentation of the public charitable foundation Mfond was held as part of the celebration of the Day of Teachers and Mentors.
The charitable foundation was established by the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan to attract additional funds to strengthen the material and technical base of general education schools and provide support to children with disabilities and from low-income families, as well as to encourage gifted students.
The platform was created as part of the implementation of the program of measures to further improve the system of public education of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2018-2021, which was approved by the resolution of the President of Uzbekistan “On measures to introduce new management principles in the public education system” from 5 September 2018.
With the help of the Mfond platform, philanthropic donors, parents, former school graduates, including compatriots living abroad, can provide sponsorship to schools in Uzbekistan.
Money can be transferred through local payment systems like Payme, Upay, Click or international payment systems Visa, Mastercard, etc.
It should be noted that donors can transfer funds to the account of a particular school or to a general fund.
The Fund will direct accumulated financial resources for development of school infrastructure, implementation of socially important projects of pupils and teachers, equipping laboratories, creating smart classes and other projects.
Rustam Karimjonov, the project manager, noted: “About 10,000 schools are functioning in Uzbekistan now, and 60% of them need to strengthen the material and technical base. Only 37% of schools in Uzbekistan have computer classes and only 7% of them are connected to the Internet. The leadership of Uzbekistan allocates funds to improve the infrastructure of schools. But, in order to achieve the set goals in a short time, we need to mobilize donor resources.”
“Using the system of public finance, we want to improve the condition of schools and create comfortable conditions for the education and development of our children. I note that this is a tool for schools. With the help of the platform, they can ensure transparency and accountability of the funds raised, as well as their use. The system is completely transparent. Periodically, we will publish data on the funds received and how they were used,” he added.
“We call upon all not indifferent people to contribute to education of our children and create a better future for them,” Karimjonov said.
At the time of publication, more than 150 people transferred over 1.39 million soums to the new fund.
