Presidents of Uzbekistan and France hold fruitful negotiations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of France Emmanuel Macron met in the Elysee Palace on 9 October.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev sincerely thanked Emmanuel Macron for the invitation to France and the warm hospitality extended to the Uzbek delegation. He particularly noted the great importance that Uzbekistan attaches the development of cooperation with France as a reliable and long-term partner.
Stressing that France is the first European country he visits on an official visit, Uzbek President drew attention to the historical ties of friendship and trade ties that have linked two countries since the time of our great ancestor Sahibkaran Amir Temur and King of France Charles VI.
Uzbek people know France as one of the leading world powers, which has a huge political, economic, cultural and humanitarian potential.
The parties noted the importance of developing new forms of regional and international cooperation, jointly combating challenges and threats.
The French President reaffirmed his support for large-scale transformations carried out in Uzbekistan and highly appreciated the foreign policy of the leadership of Uzbekistan, based on the principles of friendship, mutually beneficial partnership and mutual consideration of interests.
The parties said that the approaches of the two states to solving major international and regional problems are close or coincide.
The role of Tashkent in strengthening regional stability and security, developing mutually beneficial cooperation and good-neighborly relations in order to ensure the peaceful and sustainable development of Central Asia was particularly emphasized.
The heads of states reiterated the need to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan as an important condition for peace and tranquility in the region, stressing the absence of an alternative to a direct political dialogue, without prior conditions, between all parties involved in the conflict.
The intensification of the political dialogue in recent years and the need to make it regular has been underlined.
Regular contacts are made at the level of governments and ministries. Political consultations are held between foreign ministries. Inter-parliamentary ties are consistently developing.
The development of trade, economic, investment, energy, technological, cultural and humanitarian cooperation was discussed in detail.
Particular attention is paid to the activities of the Uzbek-French Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. The importance of increasing the volume of mutual trade, the implementation of promising investment projects in various sectors of the economy was emphasized.
In accordance with the Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the European Union in mutual trade between the countries, the most favored nation regime has been established, the Convention on the avoidance of double taxation of income and other documents have been signed.
In this regard, it was noted with satisfaction that following the results of the business forum, organized jointly with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the French Entrepreneurs Movement “MEDEF”, agreements were reached on the implementation of promising projects based on advanced European experience, knowledge and technology.
In particular, a cooperation program for the implementation of infrastructure projects totaling about 600 million euros was signed with the French Development Agency.
Uzbekistan plans to implement projects with such French companies as Airbus, Total, Vinci, Orano Mining, Total Eren, Veolia, Fevs Stein, Bouygues, Ranges and many by others.
Issues of expanding cooperation in the fields of culture and art, tourism, science and technology, education, health care, and archeology were also discussed.
Presidents noted that France had become the first European country in respect of which a visa-free regime was introduced for tourists visiting Uzbekistan.
Agreements have been reached on opening branches of Strasbourg University and the Paris Academy of the Pantheon Sorbonne University in Uzbekistan, where Uzbek students will study specialties in such areas as economics, engineering, agriculture, tourism.
In addition, cooperation agreements in training were signed with the International Academy of Fashion, the universities of Toulouse, Cergy-Pontoise, INALCO and others.
Taking into account the great interest in the historical and cultural heritage of our country, an agreement was reached to hold an exhibition on the history of Uzbekistan in the Louvre Museum in 2021. This will be the first exhibition to be held in the world-famous museum and will be devoted to one of the countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
During the visit, 10 intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents were signed regarding road transport, tourism, military-technical cooperation, space exploration, investment projects financing, culture and other spheres.
Following the talks, the exchange of signed documents took place.
The results of the fruitful negotiations of the heads of state were a clear confirmation of the readiness of Uzbekistan and France to further expand and strengthen the long-term mutually beneficial partnership, filling it with new practical content.
