Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Louvre is the world famous museum, the visiting card of France. It is the world’s largest art collection and the second largest square. Every year this museum is visited by almost 10 million tourists.
The museum building was erected in 1190 as a castle-fortress by the French king Philip Augustus. For several centuries, it served as the residence of the kings of France. After the construction of the Palace of Versailles in 1793, the castle was turned into a museum.
The Louvre has over 300,000 exhibits, the most ancient of which date back to the 7th century BC. In the halls of the museum exhibited only 35 thousand exhibits. The most popular among them are the Venus de Milo and the Hammurabi set of laws, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and the Lacemaker by Jan Vermeer.
Museum exhibits are grouped into 6 collections. The collection of the East alone occupies 24 rooms. There are thousands of exhibits about the history of our country. Among them are the letter of Amir Temur to King Charles VI, one of the candlesticks made for the mausoleum of Yassavi by order of Sahibkaran, inscriptions on tombstones and other objects.
Uzbek President examined these exhibits and inquired about their history. He noted the need to organize joint exhibitions of museums of Uzbekistan and France, expansion of scientific and cultural ties between two countries.
