Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan dedicated to the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local Kengashes scheduled for 22 December 2019, Dunyo reports.
The event was attended by representatives of political parties that nominated their candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections, and employees of the ministry.
At the event held as part of the “Month of Propaganda of the Electoral Law”, the essence and significance of the updated legal framework in this area, the role of the upcoming elections in the socio-economic development of our country and other pressing issues were discussed.
Representatives of political parties spoke about the main directions and goals of their election programs, answered questions regarding the development of laws on the agenda of state building.
Representatives of the Foreign Ministry informed about the ongoing work on organizing the participation of compatriots abroad in the upcoming parliamentary elections, as well as the process of monitoring the election process by international observers. In particular, it was noted that over 600 foreign observers will observe the elections, 280 of which are a full-fledged observer mission from the OSCE / ODIHR.
Special attention was paid to the fact that for the citizens of Uzbekistan temporarily residing or studying abroad, 53 polling stations were created in 38 countries, and, in accordance with the new Electoral Code, early voting will be organized. In addition, not only compatriots registered in consular missions of Uzbekistan abroad, but also all citizens of our country who have reached the age of 18 and are not able to take part in the elections in their homeland will be able to participate in the upcoming elections.
Following the meeting, opinions were expressed that, thanks to measures taken, the upcoming elections will be the first elections in the history of modern Uzbekistan with unprecedented rates of voter turnout.
