Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 20 February 2020 at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in London, a presentation by the researcher of the Institute of Archeology at London University College Milyana Radivovich was organized on the results of his scientific work on the history of the formation of the Great Silk Road.
The event, organized jointly with the British-Uzbek Friendship Society, was attended by archaeologists, historians, scientists and cultural figures, students of British universities, as well as representatives of the Uzbek diaspora.
In her speech, Milyana Radivovich noted the widespread interest in the Silk Road phenomenon, which manifests itself in the publication of numerous books and scientific papers on this topic, the production of feature films and scientific films, the organization of exhibitions and expositions in famous museums and galleries.
Based on the data obtained in the course of his research, the scientist believes that today it would be correct to speak not only about the Silk Road, but also about the numerous "silk roads" - trade routes that united various continents through Central Asia, including the territory of modern Uzbekistan. It was here, in her opinion, about 4-5 thousand years ago - long before silk became the main commodity in international trade, the first global economic network was formed. At the same time, the main commodities in active trade between representatives of various communities were initially grain and barley, which were later replaced by metals and metal products from tin, copper, bronze and iron, which significantly affected the transformation of the socio-economic structure in the region.
In order to study this phenomenon in more detail, Milyana Radivovich, together with colleagues from Uzbekistan, plans to study the history of metal production in the republic more deeply, including by visiting deposits in Uzbekistan and researching samples taken there.
