Uzbek delegation attends winter session of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 20–21 February 2020, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Deputy Chairman of the Senate Oliy Majlis Zainiddin Nizamkhodjaev took part in the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) in Vienna.
About 300 delegates were represented at the event, including 200 parliamentarians from OSCE participating States and co-operation partners.
Within the framework of the meeting, plenary sessions were held, as well as meetings of the three OSCE PA standing committees on democracy, human rights and humanitarian issues; on economic issues, science, technology, environment; political issues and security.
The session also featured the reports of the heads of the latest OSCE PA election observation missions in 2019, in particular in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Ukraine.
During the meetings of the standing committees, members of the Uzbek delegation informed the participants about important reforms in Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring human rights, freedom of the media, environmental protection, as well as the results of the elections to the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan in December last year.
As part of the visit of the delegation of Uzbekistan to Vienna, bilateral meetings were held with the Chairman of the Federal Council of the Austrian Parliament, Robert Seeber, the OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger and the Chairperson of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Georgy Tsereteli.
At the meetings, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the further development of Uzbek-Austrian inter-parliamentary relations, as well as issues of strengthening the interaction of our country with the OSCE PA.
Highly appreciating the ongoing large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan and the intensification of interaction between Uzbekistan and the OSCE PA, Georgy Tsereteli expressed his readiness to support the Uzbek side in realizing its goals in the socio-political and socio-economic spheres of the state’s life.
