Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 20 May, Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev, Minister of Transport and Highways of Kyrgyzstan Janat Beishenov, Deputy General Director of the Department of Foreign Capital and Investments of the State Committee for Development and Reform of the People’s Republic of China Zhen Chiping held a video conference.
At an online meeting initiated by the Uzbek side, the parties discussed further practical measures for the implementation of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway construction project.
In particular, the parties discussed a single agreement on the proposed routes for the construction of railways, technical standards used in the design and construction, sources of financing for the project and other organizational issues.
Speaking at a video conference, Elyor Ganiev noted that in the context of this pandemic, the transport of goods by rail across state borders is becoming increasingly important.
“In accordance with the requirements of sanitary and epidemiological standards, restrictions have been imposed on almost all types of transport. Due to quarantine measures, road transport between our countries is limited. Against the background of these processes, the railway remains the safest and most reliable mode of transport. This fact indicates the need for accelerated implementation of this project,” Ganiev said.
At the meeting, the proposals of China and Kyrgyzstan on the sections through which the railway can go were discussed in detail. The parties agreed to review the technical and economic aspects of the project in each direction and hold a meeting next week in the same format to come to a general conclusion about the proposed routes for the construction of railways.
