Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As previously reported, today the eighth plenary meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis is being held, within which a number of issues are discussed.
Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbaeva expressed her opinion on the results of the parliamentary inquiry sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the state of commission of crimes related to the use of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
“This issue is one of the topical important issues in our country, which requires special attention,” said T. Narbaeva, Chairperson of the upper house of parliament. - It's no secret that this has been a very painful issue for Uzbekistan for many years.
Today the whole world recognizes New Uzbekistan. This is based on the ultimate goal of human rights and interests. As the main criterion, it was determined that the state functions for the people, the well-being of every person in the country. The honor and dignity of a person is considered as the main main value.
In recent years, a lot of systematic work has been done to prevent the use of torture. Despite this, it is too early to say that we have completely got rid of this problem.
We all remember the incidents that happened in Chirakchi and Andijan. A large-scale, comprehensive approach is needed to prevent the recurrence of such cases. This requires the efforts of not only law enforcement agencies, but also civil society institutions, the media and the general public. In this regard, this issue will be under constant control of the Senate.
