Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the end of January-August 2021, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover (FTT) reached US$24.96 billion, which, compared to the same period in 2020, increased by US$383.1 million (an increase of 1.6%), the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.
Of the total volume of the FTT, exports amounted to 9,277.9 million US dollars (by January-August 2020, a decrease of 20.1% was noted), and imports – US$15.68 billion (an increase of 20.9%). As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover amounted to a passive balance in the amount of - US$6.41 billion.
Among the 20 large partner countries in foreign economic activity, there is also an active foreign trade balance with four countries, in particular with such countries as Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkey. The remaining 16 countries maintain a passive balance of foreign trade turnover.
Today, Uzbekistan carries out trade relations with 174 countries of the world. The largest volume of foreign trade turnover was recorded with the PRC (19.2%), the Russian Federation (17.9%), Kazakhstan (9.9%), Turkey (8.6%), the Republic of Korea (4.8%), Kyrgyzstan (2.4%) and Germany (1.9%).
In the structure of the republic’s foreign trade turnover, a significant share is noted in Tashkent, which is 39.9%, or US$9.97 billion, and the smallest share is recorded at the level of 1.1%, or US$273.4 million, which is marked in Surkhandarya region.
The share of foreign trade turnover of the CIS countries, compared to the same period in 2020, increased by 7.8% and their share in foreign trade turnover, in January-August 2021, amounted to 37.9%.
The volume of foreign trade turnover of other states in January-August 2021, compared to the same period of 2019-2020, accordingly decreased and amounted to 62.1% of the total volume of foreign trade turnover.
The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the CIS countries reached 9 467.1 million US dollars. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to US$3.28 billion, and the volume of imports - US$6.18 billion.
The largest volume of foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries was recorded with the Russian Federation (47.2%), Kazakhstan (26.2%) and Kyrgyzstan (6.3%).
The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the EAEU countries amounted to US$7.81 billion. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to US$2.54 billion, and the import volume – US$5.27 billion.
In January-August 2021, the total number of exporting entities amounted to 5 527 units, which ensured the increase in the volume of exports without gold to US$7.89 billion (an increase, compared to the same period in 2020, amounted to 36.0%).
In the structure of exports, 82.6% are goods, which mainly fall on industrial goods (30.0%), food products and live animals (8.7%), chemicals and similar products (7.2%).
Due to a decrease in exports to other foreign countries, the share of exports to the CIS countries increased and their share in its total volume amounted to 35.4%.
Compared to 2019-2020, our main partners in the export of goods and services in foreign trade in January-August 2021 were countries such as China, the Russian Federation, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Their share in the total export volume reached 64.0%.
In the structure of the republic’s exports, a significant share was noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 26.5%, or US$2.45 billion, and the smallest share was recorded at 1.4%, or US$127.6 million in Surkhandarya region.
The volume of exports of fruits and vegetables amounted to 948.6 thousand tons and, in value terms, exceeded US$548.6 million (the rate of decline, compared to the same period in 2020, respectively, amounted to 7.7%). On the basis of this, 579.0 thousand tons of vegetables were exported in the amount of US$244.8 million, as well as 198.4 thousand tons of fruits and berries in the amount of US$195.0 million.
In January-August 2021, the share of fruits and vegetables in total exports amounted to 5.9%. The main export markets for fruit and vegetable products are in the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan.
According to the results of January-August 2021, the largest volume in value terms of exports of fruit and vegetable products falls on the Russian Federation (31.9% of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products), which exceeds the volume of exports to China by 5.5 times.
According to the results of January-August 2021, the export of textile products was carried out in the amount of US$1.89 billion, which amounted to 20.4% of the total export volume and, compared to January-August 2020, it increased by 62.0 %.
Cotton yarn (55.8%), as well as finished knitwear and garments (22.8%), account for the main share in the structure of export of textile products. In January-August 2021, more than 468 types of textile products were exported to 61 countries of the world.
The largest share of textile exports falls on the Russian Federation (US$593.0 million - 31.3%) and China (US$475.6 million - 25.1%).
The volume of exports of services in January-August 2021 amounted to US$1.61 billion, or 17.4% of the total trade exports and increased by 23.2% compared to the same period in 2020. Transport services (70.5%), travel (tourism) (13.8%), telecommunications, computer and information services (6.9%), and other business services (4.4%) account for the lion’s share of the export of services. At the same time, other services (4.4%), respectively, account for the largest share of financial services (1.1%), insurance and pension services (1.0%), construction services (0.8%), etc.
During the reporting period, imports amounted to US$15.68 billion (an increase in growth rates, compared to January-August 2020, amounted to 120.9%). The main share in its structure is occupied by machinery and transport equipment (33.6%), industrial goods (18.3%), as well as chemicals and similar products (14.0%).
Analysis of the dynamics of imports of goods also showed that in January-August 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, the volume of imports of goods increased by US$2.45 billion and amounted to US$14.66 billion, and imports of services reached US$1.02 billion.
The share of imports from the CIS countries, compared to the same period in 2020, increased by 2.5% and their share in foreign trade turnover, in January-August 2021, amounted to 39.4%
In general, in January-August 2021, goods and services from 153 countries were imported to the Republic of Uzbekistan. One third of imports comes from such large partner countries as China, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, Germany and India.
In the structure of imports of the republic, a significant share is noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 47.9%, or US$7.51 billion, and the smallest share is recorded in Surkhandarya - 0.9%, or US$145.9 million.
The volume of imports of services in January-August 2021 made up US$1.02 billion, or 6.5% of its total volume, and increased by 33.5% compared to the same period in 2020. Travel (tourism - 48.6%), other business services (11.6%), transport services (11.3%), telecommunications, computer and information services (8.5%) make up the bulk of imports of services.
In addition, other services accounted for 20.1% of total imports of services, including a high share of construction services (7.8%), fees for the use of intellectual property (4.0%), maintenance and repair services (4.0%), etc.
At the end of January-August 2021, the volume of machinery and transport equipment in the structure of imports reached US$5.27 billion and increased, compared to the same period in 2020, by 8.0%, in general, the share in the total volume of imports amounted to 33.6%.
Imports of machinery and transport equipment increased by US$391.8 million. Most of the supply of these goods to the country falls on the PRC - US$1.81 billion (34.4%), the Republic of Korea - US$797.1 million (15.1%) and Turkey - US$518.1 million (9.8%).
At the end of January-August 2021, in the structure of imports, the volume of industrial goods reached US$2.87 billion and increased, compared to the same period in 2020, by 30.1%, in general, the share in the total volume of imports amounted to 18.3%.
The main imports of industrial goods are cast iron and steel (US$1.21 billion), metal products (US$353.9 million), products from nonmetallic minerals (US$249.4 million), textile yarn, fabrics, finished products (US$242.3 million), etc.
