Issues of international cooperation to combat human trafficking discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 October, the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor, together with the OSCE Office in Uzbekistan, organized an international round table on combating human trafficking.
The event became an important contribution to the development of national, regional and international cooperation in combating human trafficking, the development and implementation of new ideas and proposals.
During the round table, the Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairwoman of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbayeva spoke and emphasized that in recent years our country, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has implemented large-scale reforms in all areas, First of all, to ensure human rights and freedoms. In this direction, the practical interaction of parliament, government and civil society has been raised to a completely new level.
It was emphasized that the crime of human trafficking in the international community has become a global problem for all states. This evil is multifaceted and is closely related not only to human trafficking, but also to issues of ensuring human rights, human health, well-being of mother and child, education, safe migration, and labor exploitation. That is why this crime has a transnational character and continues in close connection of one state with another, as well as with other countries, and has an impact on global security.
In such conditions, first of all, the creation and improvement of the national system for combating human trafficking, the strengthening of the legislative and organizational-legal base, the development of regional and international cooperation are the requirements of the time. In this regard, the activities of the National and Territorial Commissions for Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labor, as well as the institution of the National Rapporteur, provide an opportunity for comprehensive, coordinated and effective work both at the national and local levels.
During the "round table" attention was focused on the fact that in Uzbekistan, state bodies and civil society institutions are active in the fight against this evil, and the improvement of the sphere is carried out on the basis of international standards. In this regard, the activities of the republican and regional commissions to combat human trafficking and forced labor and the Institute of People’s Speaker on these issues allow for comprehensive, coordinated and effective work at the republican and local levels.
It should be noted that on the basis of the proposals and recommendations of international organizations in the national legislation, the norms for crimes related to human trafficking have been strengthened, as well as cooperation with international organizations on the principles of openness has been strengthened, work in this direction has been raised to a completely new level.
During the event, the participants highly appreciated the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years to combat human trafficking and forced labor.
It was noted that in the reports of the US State Department in recent years on human trafficking in the world, due to the high results achieved in combating human trafficking and forced labor, the Republic of Uzbekistan was excluded from the list of states under special supervision and included in the list of countries implementing significant large-scale work on the full implementation of international standards.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Worst Child Labor annual report, released on 28 September, places Uzbekistan in the top category of "countries that have made significant changes" for the first time since 2011. It is noteworthy that Uzbekistan among 131 states Uzbekistan was among the 9 states with the highest rate.
The OSCE Special Representative for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings V. Ritchie, employees of the OSCE Office in Uzbekistan, representatives of law enforcement agencies and a number of state and non-state organizations of the country took part with reports and exchanged views on agenda items.
During the event, an agreement was reached on further development within the framework of the OSCE of international cooperation in the fight against this evil between the parliaments, governments and relevant departments of states where there are migrants from Uzbekistan.
