Uzbekistan and China to build large hydroelectric power plants

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- For the first time, large hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) will be built in the energy system of Uzbekistan.

Chairman of the Board of Uzbekhydroenergo JSC Abdugani Sanginov and Chairman of the Board of China Southern Power Grid International (HK) Co., Ltd. Zhang Tangzhi signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of three 820 MW hydraulic structures worth US$1.64 billion.

Within the framework of the project, the Yukori Pskem HPP (with a capacity of 200 MW), the Karateren HPP (500 MW) and the Yukori Pskem HPP (120 MW) will be built. These projects will be fully operational by 2030.

As part of the memorandum of Uzbekhydroenergo and China Southern Power Grid International (HK) Co., Ltd. plan to create a working group that will develop the feasibility study of the projects. The parties plan to involve international experts.

As a result of the commissioning of the HPP, an average of 3 billion kWh of electricity per year will be generated and 835.65 million cubic meters of natural gas will be saved.
