Over 1.095bn tonnes of cargoes transported in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- All types of transports in Uzbekistan transported 1.095 trillion tonnes of cargoes in January-December 2009, which is up 13.4% year-on-year. At the same time, cargo turnover fell by 6.9% to 78.1 billion tonnes-km.

Motor transport carried out 976.9 million tonnes of cargo in January-December 2009, or grew by 18.2% year-on-year. Freight turnover rose by 10.2% year-on-year to 23.2 billion tonnes-km.

Railway transported 65.7 million tonnes of fright (up 4.5%), air transport – 14,800 tonnes (up 2.5 times) and main pipelines – 53.1 million tonnes (down 30.5%).

Cargo turnover of motor transport of individual entrepreneurs increased by 7.1% to 16.1 billion tonnes-km.

Share of private cargo transporters in total turnover of motor transport comprised 69.7% in January-December 2009 against 71.7% in the same period of 2008.

About 14,800 tonnes of cargo were transported via air transport in 2009, which is 2.5 times more compared to the same period of 2008.

The freight turnover of main pipelines has decreased by 22.2% and was 30.6 billion tonnes-km.
