In January-March 2011, the retail trade turnover in Uzbekistan made up 5.243 trillion soums, or grew by 13.1% compared to the same period of 2010.
As of 1 April 2011, there were 122 operating credit unions in Uzbekistan, which are carrying out their activity according to the Law of “On credit unions”.
Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover reached US$5.718 billion in the first quarter of 2011 (+32.3%), the Uzbekistan State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said. The trade turnover with the CIS states made up US$2.228 billion and other countries – US$3.49 billion.
In the process of decentralization and privatization, according to the State Property Committee’s data, 26 enterprises and objects (including programme and non- programme objects) were privatized in Uzbekistan in the first quarter of 2011.
Implementation of the State program “Year of Small Business and Private Entrepreneurship” stimulated the creation of more than 11,600 new small business enterprises (excluding private farms) in January-March 2011.
As of 1 April 2011, the number of registered legal entities was 517,000 units, of which 483,400 (93.5% of total registered enterprises) are operating, according to the data of the Uniform State Business Register.
In January-March 2011, the volume of gross domestic product (GDP) made up 13.123 trillion soums at current prices or increased by 7.6% year-on-year, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan based on preliminary data.
GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-US carmaker, increased production of cars by 6.8% to 45,400 units in the first quarter of 2011, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.
