Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23-24 March 2016, Her Majesty’s Ambassador, Mr Chris Allan, paid an official visit to Namangan and Andijan provinces.
On 24 March the Ambassador met the Deputy Khokim of Namangan region Mr Tulkin Dadabaev, Khokim of Namangan city Mr Bakhodir Bekxodjaev and regional representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations Investment and Trade and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The topics discussed at the meetings included economic development, business environment and social situation. There are currently 5 companies with British capital operating in the region and a large textile factory project underway.
In addition, the Ambassador visited the information centres at Namangan city and regional khokimiyats and the centre for providing public services to entrepreneurs (One-Stop-Shop). These centres and one of the first One-Stop-Shops in the country were created with the support of the British Embassy through the UNDP Local Governance Support Program. The One-Stop-Shop provides simplified access for businesses and entrepreneurs to a wide range of public services. Success of this project led to nationwide legislation which has supported the opening of 194 facilities across the country in 2015.
The Ambassador also visited Andijan region on the same day. The meeting with regional representatives of MFERIT and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was also very informative. On March 25 the Ambassador travelled to Fergana region, with a particular interest to visit Margilan, Rishtan and Kokand – centres of historical and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan.
Returning to Tashkent Ambassador Allan said: “This was my first trip to the Fergana valley, but I hope it will be the first of many. I was able to visit all three regions of the valley, and see some of the exceptional culture and history alongside my official meetings. My reception was without exception friendly and hospitable. It was also clear that there are many economic opportunities in a variety of sectors, and that agriculture is thriving – it was a particular pleasure to visit as the fruit trees blossomed, and planting season was underway”.
