Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan plans to attract US$4.5 million of financial resources of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
According to the UNICEF in Uzbekistan, in 2016, the Government of Uzbekistan will apply for additional US$4.5 million to compliment a budget gap of Health System Strengthening.
It is worth to mention that GAVI approved allocation of a grant for US$20.5 million to Uzbekistan two years ago. The resources were issued for Health System Strengthening and Cold Chain Equipment Optimization Platform. It is expected that this grant will be allocated in the second part of 2016.
GAVI funds will help Uzbekistan to modernize its cold chain system with new equipment – a vital building block towards delivering vaccines more equitably, throughout the cold chain network. The initiative will contribute to improve efficiency and safety of vaccines. The updated cold chain will replace old equipment, and will run on lower cost. Temperature can also be better regulated.
To provide the safety of vaccination and to ensure that no child is left behind, UNICEF in Uzbekistan helps the Ministry of Health with procurement of vaccines.
Uzbekistan has a child population of over 10 million children, and almost 100% of children are fully vaccinated. The country is committed to reach out to every child: children in institutions, girls and boys with disabilities, and those who live in remote areas.
