Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Council of the heads of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) started its work in Tashkent on 24 June.
The SCO summit started with negotiations of the SCO leaders in face-to-face format.
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of China Xi Jinping, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon are taking part in the meeting.
The sides are discussing issues of further improving the norm-setting and legal aspects of the SCO’s activities, consistently developing political, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation among the organization’s member states.
They will also consider issues of fighting against terrorism, separatism and extremism, against narcotic substances and weapons smuggling and against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and also about issues of strengthening regional security and stability and the situation in Afghanistan.
