New head of EU delegation in Uzbekistan start his mission

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Eduards Stiprais of Latvia started his work as the head of the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan from 19 September 2016, the press service of the EU delegation in Uzbekistan said.
He earlier worked as the Undersecretary of State and Political Director of the Latvian Foreign Ministry. Eduards Stiprais became the third envoy of the EU in Uzbekistan since opening of the diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan in 2011. He replaced at this post Yuri Sterk from Bulgaria.
Eduards Stiprais has worked for the Latvian Diplomatic Service since 1993 and is one of the most experienced Latvian diplomats. He has worked as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Director-General of the Bilateral Relations Directorate, Head of the Chancery of the President of Latvia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Latvia to the European Union, as well as serving as Head of the Secretariat of Latvia’s Delegation for Accession Negotiations. Eduards Stiprais has been Under Secretary of State and Political Director of the Foreign Ministry since 2013.
Eduards Stiprais has received the Order of Three Stars, as well as decorations of Ukraine, Norway and France.
He graduated from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Latvia, and has attended the National School of Administration in France and the Swedish Institute of International Affairs.
