Astana and Tashkent intensify trade and economic cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the Government of Kazakhstan headed by First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin paid a working visit to Tashkent on the instructions of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev.
During the visit, the delegation held talks with the Acting President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Azimov, Deputy Prime Minister Ulugbek Rozukulov and Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Elyor Ganiev.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed sincere gratitude to the President Nursultan Nazarbayev on behalf of the people of Uzbekistan and himself, the Kazakh Government said in a statement.
"In the difficult days Nursultan Nazarbayev was with us, Uzbek people. We are very grateful to him. Kazakh people - our reliable, sincere and close friend," he stressed.
During the meeting with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the sides discussed a state and prospects of bilateral trade and economic relations, strengthening ties in the field of industrial partnership, transport and transit. It was noted that there is great potential for expanding trade and economic ties.
"Together, we need to change the negative trend in trade turnover between our countries. We, indeed, have an untapped potential. In the medium term we should increase the turnover almost by 2 times, bringing it to 5 billion US dollars,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
At the meeting Askar Mamin stressed that the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev attaches great importance to cooperation development with Uzbekistan.
"We see great prospects for cooperation in the full range of economic and trade cooperation, especially in the field of agriculture, mechanical engineering, transport and logistics sector, energy, etc.," Askar Mamin said.
During the negotiations with Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov, the sides discussed specific measures to expand trade and economic ties.
Following the negotiations, the parties reached an agreement on increasing export of agricultural products, grain and flour from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, creation of favorable tariff conditions on cargo traffic on the territory of the two countries, mutual discounts for railway transport services, launch of regular container trains with fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan in Kazakhstan.
Rustam Azimov noted the importance of increasing volume of flour and oil products from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, which is "a reliable buyer of Kazakh products".
In addition, they considered creation of mechanisms for development of interregional cooperation of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, joint trading houses - guarantors of providing mutual supplies in agriculture, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, enhance customs cooperation in terms of information.
"Establishing trade houses in the form of joint ventures with head offices in Astana or Almaty that meet our mutual needs," Rustam Azimov said.
Askar Mamin also emphasized the necessity to open markets for both countries for mutual investments, establishing close business contacts between business circles and enterprises of the real sector of economy.
Following the working visit to Tashkent, Askar Mamin and Rustam Azimov signed the Protocol on extension of main directions of economic and trade cooperation.
