Uzbekistan holds 55th place in health ranking of The Lancet

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan clinched the 55th place in the ranking of countries on indicators of sustainable development related to medicine, life and health. The ranking was published by British medical journal The Lancet.
The ranking is based on 33 indicators, each of which is calculated on a scale from zero (worst performance) to one hundred (the best index). Among the criteria it was taken into consideration in the ranking of countries - child and infant mortality, deaths in road traffic accidents, obesity in children, alcohol consumption and smoking, the incidence of HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis B, the number of suicides. In addition, the experts also took into account deaths from violence and death in war. The calculation was carried out for each criterion based on the analysis of the situation from 1990 to 2015.
Uzbekistan took the 55th place in the ranking. The country holds the first place among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Central Asia.
Among the CIS countries Turkmenistan (60th), Azerbaijan (75) Moldova (80) Kazakhstan (85), Armenia (86), Tajikistan (99), Kyrgyzstan (113), Ukraine (118) Russia (119) and Belarus (120) followed Uzbekistan.
According to the ranking, Uzbekistan took 100 points on such indicator as “Births in the presence of midwives”, 93 points -“The level of medical prevention of diseases”, 89 points - “Diseases due to air pollution”, 84 points - “Family planning and reproductive age”, 81 points -“Smoking” and 81 points -“Diseases due to consumption of contaminated water”.
Iceland, Singapore, Sweden, Andorra and the United Kingdom topped the ranking, published by the magazine. The ranking includes 188 countries.
