Senate ratifies ILO Convention

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved a law “On ratification of ILO Convention No 87 on freedom of association and protection of the right to organise convention” on 12 October.
The Convention was adopted in 1948 and it came into force on 1950. The convention was ratified by 153 countries.
The document provides right to employees and employers to create organizations and joint them and develop their charters and administrative regulations, approve and realize action programmes.
The convention envisages that the state bodies cannot interfere to work of these organizations or limit their rights, etc.
The legislation of Uzbekistan fully complies with the principles of the Convention. Uzbekistan also signed and ratified other international documents on guarantees of freedom of the association.
Currently, Uzbekistan Trade Unions represent interests of over 6.4 million people, uniting 14 industries, 14 territories and 35,000 preliminary trade union organizations
Adoption of the law “On ratification of ILO Convention No 87 on freedom of association and protection of the right to organise convention” serves as good evidence that the government adheres to universal values in human rights.
The ratification of the Convention will create further conditions for integration of Uzbekistan into international and regional organizations, improve protection of interests of employers and employees in line with international standards.
