Uzbek FM attends 23rd OSCE Ministerial Council

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov participated at the 23rd OSCE Ministerial Council in Hamburg (Germany).
Speaking at the council, Uzbek Foreign Minister said that Uzbekistan held presidential elections on 4 December and Shavkat Mirziyoyev won the elections, collecting 88.6% of voters.
He said that over 600 independent observers from 47 states, including several international and regional organizations such as UN, OSCE, SCO, CIS, OIC, A-WEB and others.
Uzbek Foreign Minister said OSCE/ODIHR played special role in monitoring of the elections in Uzbekistan. He said that all conditions were created for OSCE/ODIHR and all state bodies, civil society institute and polling stations were open for the mission.
Kamilov expressed gratitude to OSCE/ODIHR and its leadership, as well as head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission.
Uzbekistan is ready to further continue constructive cooperation with the OSCE in improving and strengthening election system in the country, Uzbek Foreign Minister said.
“Uzbekistan will maintain continuity and consistency in its foreign policy, aimed at protecting and promoting indigenous interests of the country,” he added. Kamilov said that the Uzbek foreign policy is based on international law and obligations of the country.
Uzbekistan is strong supporter of non-interference into internal affairs of other states and peaceful and political resolution of all contradictions and confrontations, he said.
Abdulaziz Kamilov stated that Uzbekistan made principle and unequivocal choice - not to join any military-political blocs and alliances, not to allow the placing on its territory of foreign military bases, not to send Uzbek troops to foreign states.
Head of Uzbek Foreign Minister said that Central Asia remains the main priority of foreign political activity of Uzbekistan. He underlined that Uzbekistan will conduct open, friendly and pragmatic policy in relation to neighboring states.
Priority of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy is to preserve and strengthen peace and stability in Central Asia, turning the region to zone of security and sustainable development in the context of serious threats and challenges to the region, he noted.
Uzbek official said that instability in Afghanistan threatens to the region. He noted that it is necessary to provide assistance to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan and peaceful negotiations to achieve national reconciliation.
Abdulaziz Kamilov said that protection of ecology and preservation of environment, especially taking into account tragedy of Aral Sea, is important for Central Asia.
“Uzbekistan sees the OSCE as the forum for equal dialogue of the states, in which security, economy and human dimension should be balanced, and equivalent in nature,” Kamilov stated.
He noted that Uzbekistan calls for further strengthening the OSCE potential in economic and ecological dimensions.
Uzbekistan also supports such aspects of the OSCE activities as fighting trans-national threats, including terrorism and radicalism, trans-border of drugs turnover and cyber crimes.
