KOICA opens healthcare and recreation center in Karakalpakstan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 January 2017, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) completed a project “Establishment of healthcare and recreation center in Karakalpakstan”. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Karakalpak branch of the Institute of health and medical statistics.
The project was initiated by KOICA volunteer, dispatched for the first time in the field of health and environmental protection to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. It should be noted that the project achieved success thanks to the active cooperation of all organizations and institutions under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as through the efforts of local population of the region.
The project foundation was laid after the dispatch of KOICA volunteer in April 2016 at a joint meeting with the Minister of Health of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the director of Karakalpak branch of the Institute of Health and Medical Statistics. As a result, in June 2016 the development of Feasibility Study was initiated with the purpose of the establishment of healthcare and recreation center. The project, with a total budget of US$30,000, was implemented within 4 months starting in October 2016.
Director of KOICA Uzbekistan Office, Ms. Im Jeong Hee stated that the center will assist the exchange of experience and achievements of the Republic of Korea in the field of medicine and health. In addition, in the future the center will contribute to providing education to the population in learning basic skills of medical prevention.
Head of department of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Karakalpakstan Mr. Askarov A. thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea, and expressed special gratitude to KOICA Office for their assistance in the establishment of the center. He noted that the center would provide a good opportunity to learn new medical technologies as well as the medical education system of Korea.
KOICA Office intends to contribute to the strengthening of medical education and health care in the region through dispatch of volunteers to the center in various fields of medical education, such as: personal hygiene, obesity prevention, emergency medical care, dentistry and others.
