Uzbekistan, Russia sign protocol on compliance to phytosanitary requirements

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Russia signed a protocol on compliance to the phytosanitary requirements in import of Uzbek fruit and vegetable products of high phytosanitary risk to Russia.
The document was signed in the result of the working meeting of the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev and Minister of Agriculture of Russia Aleksandr Tkachev in Moscow.
The protocol strengthen cooperation between phytosanitary services of Russia and Uzbekistan in the field of plant quarantine.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed issues of development of trade in agricultural products and foodstuffs between Uzbekistan and Russia.
The sides noted that positive results in the development of cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan on increasing the supply of agricultural products.
According to the Russian Agriculture Ministry, trade turnover of agriculture products between Uzbekistan and Russia grew almost 20% to US$398 million (US$334 million in 2015).
Exports of Russia to Uzbekistan in 2016 reached US$284.8 million, while Uzbekistan exported products for US$113.7 million to Russia.
At the meeting, the sides noted the positive results, achieved within the framework of the Working Group on the supply of fruit and vegetable products from Uzbekistan to Russia. It was noted that Uzbekistan significantly increased the supply of fruits and vegetables in Russia in 2016.
Aleksander Tkachev said that Russia is interested in increasing supplies of grains, fish and fish products, seed potatoes, soybean seeds, as well as confectionery products to Uzbekistan. He added that Russian farmers are willing to increase the supply of sugar and fat products to Uzbekistan.
