CIS Foreign Ministers hold meeting in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Tashkent on 6-7 April 2017.
Foreign Ministers of Armenia Edvard Nalbandyan, Belarus Vladimir Makey, Kazakhstan Kayrat Abdrahmanov, Kyrgyzstan Erlan Abdyldaev, Russia Sergey Lavrov, Tajikistan Sirojidin Aslov, Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov attended the event.
Deputy Foreign Ministers of Moldavia Lilian Dariy, Turkmenistan Vepa Hadjiev and chairman of the Executive committee- Executive secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev also took part in the session.
CIS Foreign Ministers discussed current state and perspectives of developing cooperation in various directions of activities of the organizations, improving its role and place in international and regional affairs, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
The sides exchanged opinion on actual issues of strengthening regional security and stability, depending trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation, as well as ensuring sustainable development of the CIS member states.
Foreign Ministers of the CIS discussed 15 documents, 9 of which will be submitted to consideration of the Council of the heads of the states of the CIS in October 2017 and the Council of the heads of the Government in May 2017.
The documents related to issues of cooperation of the Commonwealth states in foreign political, legal, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres.
The participants adopted a statement on the inadmissibility of discrimination and intolerance against Christians, Muslims and representatives of other faiths.
Foreign Ministers also considered information of the CIS Executive Committee on distribution of quotas, appointment and rotation of the Deputy Chairperson of the Executive Committee and other officials.
The CIS officials approved a draft Concept of cooperation of the CIS states in the sphere on fighting legalization (laundering) of proceeds from crime, financing of terrorism and financing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, which will be considered by the CIS Presidents.
Foreign Ministers also approved a protocol on the transfer of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, firearms, their main parts, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices, which are evidence in criminal cases. The document will be also considered by the Presidents of the CIS states.
They also discussed issues of realization of the inter-state programme “Cultural capitals of the Commonwealth” in 2018 and others.
Next session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS will be held in Moscow on 10 October 2017.
