Uzbekistan pays over US$130m to Kazakhstan for electricity debt

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan paid over US$130 million to Kazakhstan to repay part of the debt for supplied electricity, Kazinform agency reported quoting the chairman of the board of KEGOC Bakytzhan Kazhiev.
Kazhiev noted that Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan had some disagreements. “From the moment we concluded and settled the contractual relationship with the Uzbek energy system, Uzbekistan owed more than US$140 million,” he added.
According to him, work is currently underway to resolve this issue.
A representative of KEGOC noted that Uzbekistan paid part of the debt. The debt of Uzbekistan is now US$11.33 million (from US$143 million). He said that Uzbekistan will pay the rest of the debt until the end of 2017.
