Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan signed about 60 documents worth US$140 million during the business forum in Tashkent.
On 13 December, Tashkent hosted a business forum with the participation of representatives of business circles of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The event was held within the framework of the official visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov to Uzbekistan.
The business forum was attended by representatives of more than 100 companies from Kyrgyzstan, which work in various sectors of the economy.
During the forum, the Minister of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev noted that trade between the countries is growing. According to him, since the beginning of 2017 the trade turnover between the two countries has grown by more than 60% to US$200 million. He added that the parties have every opportunity to bring up bilateral trade to US$250 million through the end of this year.
The Minister noted that Uzbekistan is ready to significantly expand the supply of cars and trucks, buses, specialized machinery, mineral fertilizers, electrical products and household appliances, building materials, ready-made textiles, fruit and vegetable and other products to Kyrgyzstan.
Khodjaev stressed that Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are now working on creation of joint ventures for production of agricultural machinery, cars, buses, washing machines, building materials, etc.
In turn, the Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan Artem Novikov said that the countries have the potential to increase mutual trade up to US$500 million. He said that Kyrgyzstan is ready to supply food products such as honey, potatoes, onions, dairy and meat products to Uzbekistan.
Novikov said that the countries are also stepping up cooperation between financial institutions.
As a result of the business forum, the business circles of the two countries signed about 60 documents for US$140 million. Also, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan signed a framework agreement on development of cooperation in the field of trade finance and a “road map” for development of trade, economic, investment and transport-communication cooperation for 2017-2019.
