Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the President of Afghanistan Muhammad Ashraf Ghani in Qingdao (China), the press service of the head of Uzbekistan said in a statement.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev underlined that the people of Uzbekistan are interested in establishing a stable peace in brotherly neighboring Afghanistan.
“We are pleased that after the conference held this year in Tashkent, worldwide active efforts to ensure peace in Afghanistan began. Everyone understands that the only way to achieve this is dialogue. This meeting is a good opportunity to exchange views on this issue, discuss important issues for our countries,” Uzbek President said.
Ashraf Ghani noted the recently intensified political dialogue between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
“I would like to especially note the rapid pace of implementation of the agreements reached within my visit to Uzbekistan. I express my deep gratitude on behalf of our people and government for the fact that your country held a major event on Afghanistan. Your personal attention to this issue has created the conditions for the development of political decisions,” the President of Afghanistan said.
Uzbekistan implements important economic and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan. Since 2002, electricity has been supplied to this country, volumes of which will increase as a result of the construction of a new power transmission line Surkhan-Puli-Khumri.
Among the promising projects is the extension of the Hayratan-Mazar-i-Sharif railway to Herat. This will be an important contribution to reconstruction of the Afghan economy, increase the transit potential of the country, create new jobs.
Humanitarian ties also became more active. In January 2018, the Educational Center for the Training of Afghan Citizens began its work in Termez. Currently, about 100 Afghan young men and girls are educated in the center.
During the meeting, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan discussed issues of further development of political, trade and economic, transport and communication, cultural and humanitarian ties between our countries, strengthening of regional security.
