Tashkent hosts international conference on trade in the Asia-Pacific region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An international conference on trade and interaction for inclusive growth in the Asia-Pacific region is held in Tashkent on 27-28 June 2018.
The event is held by the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the World Trade Organization in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to identify trade problems and ways to address them based on the capabilities of the region.
In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sahib Saifnazarov informed the participants of the meeting about the trade and economic potential of Uzbekistan and ongoing reforms in the sphere of liberalization of foreign trade and simplification of tax and customs legislation. Also, the Deputy Minister noted actively developing effective relations with international financial institutions, including the Asian Development Bank.
"In order to develop cooperation, the Asian Development Bank is proposed to expand the Trade Finance Program of Uzbek banks to involve the majority of domestic companies in the export activities of the republic," Sahib Saifnazarov suggested.
The first day of the event focused on the use of the potential of e-commerce. As it was said at the conference, with its help small and medium-sized enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region have the opportunity to access global markets and compete at the international level, as well as create jobs. Nevertheless, the region needs to overcome the difficulties associated with the infrastructure of information technology and the strengthening of regulatory mechanisms.
"Emerging digital technologies are transforming the environment for the development of e-commerce and offer a new set of advanced solutions and opportunities for more inclusive growth and innovation promotion," said Bambang Susantono, ADB’s Vice President for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development.
During the conference it is planned to discuss the problems of the WTO accession process, as well as trade facilitation and simplification of trade processes for inclusive development.
