Uzbekistan-Belarus: New level of interparliamentary cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 September 2018, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism Alisher Kurmanov met with the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National meeting of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Rakhmanov.
Rakhmanov arrived in Uzbekistan as part of the delegation in the framework of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
According to the Senate, the parties noted that in recent years our countries have intensified fruitful cooperation. Undoubtedly, the agreements reached at the highest level during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus to Uzbekistan filled it with practical content. The joint forum of business and interregional cooperation allowed to conclude bilateral mutually beneficial contracts and agreements worth over US$230 million.
As noted during the meeting, inter-parliamentary relations are one of the important components of the Uzbek-Belarusian cooperation, which has significantly advanced over the past period.
The parties paid special attention to the organization of regional forums under the auspices of the upper chambers of the parliaments of the two countries. Between the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, a memorandum on holding regional forums on a systemic basis was signed. Thus, the people’s representatives through mechanisms of parliamentary diplomacy and control will ensure the effective and timely implementation of agreements reached between regions and entrepreneurs of the two countries.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue their joint work to further deepen multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
