Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Russia Botirjon Asadov visited the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The arrival to the Urals of the Ambassador was connected with the opening of the General Consulate of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Yekaterinburg.
The meeting in the Chamber, which was attended by representatives of government and industrial enterprises of Sverdlovsk region, discussed the possibility of expanding business cooperation between the Uzbek and Russian regions.
As Bothirjon Asadov said, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Sverdlovsk region in 2017 amounted to US$170 million. In the first half of 2018, trade volume grew by 49%, and there is a great opportunity to increase trade. According to the diplomat, during the October visit of the Russian delegation to Uzbekistan, 28 agreements were concluded between Sverdlovsk and Uzbek businessmen for a total amount of US$150 million.
According to Botirjon Asadov, contact points were found largely due to the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries. The capabilities of these business associations for the development of foreign economic cooperation are well known to the Ambassador Extraordinary in Russia, since until February 2018 he was Deputy Head of the CCI of Uzbekistan.
Botirjon Asadov informed the Russian colleagues that over the past two years, a great deal of work has been done in his country to liberalize foreign economic activity and the foreign exchange market, which has created favorable conditions for doing business in Uzbekistan. In particular, free economic zones are created with a preferential tax regime, clusters are created in different sectors of the economy and the necessary infrastructure is being created for localizing production.
According to the Ambassador Extraordinary, Sverdlovsk region could additionally implement a number of investment projects in the Uzbek regions, from where it is convenient to deliver the manufactured products to the neighboring countries of Central Asia, Afghanistan and the Middle East. To create convenient transport corridors in the direction of China, a logistics center was created in Navoi. “Mechanical engineering, consumer goods production and tourism could become areas for joint activities. We are always ready to help businesses localize production and we expect the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry to assist in the implementation of the agreements already reached and will help to conclude new ones,” said Botirjon Asadov.
Andrei Besedin, President of the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that the opening of the General Consulate of Uzbekistan in Yekaterinburg will allow Ural entrepreneurs to more quickly find partners in the Uzbek regions. “Based on our experience with other countries, we advise Uzbek business to actively participate in tourism forums that take place in Yekaterinburg and organize promotional tours for our tour operators and the media. These are additional opportunities for developing bilateral relations, as well as holding cultural events in framework, for example, the days of Uzbekistan in Yekaterinburg. In addition, you should participate in the industrial exhibition INNOPOM. This is the most convenient way to get an idea of the economic potential of the Sverdlovsk region ty ", - said Andrei Besedin.
