Uzbekistan tightens punishment for prostitution

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan increased the amount of fines for engaging in prostitution.
The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved the law “On introducing amendments and addenda to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at improving the mechanisms for ensuring public order”.
According to the law, the penalty for engaging in prostitution will be from 3 to 7 minimum wages (MRZP). At present, the Administrative Liability Code envisages a fine for prostitution in the amount of 1 to 3 MRZP.
A repeated offense within a year after the application of a fine is punishable by a fine of 7 to 10 MRZP or an administrative arrest of up to 15 days (before that, the fine was from 3 to 5 MRZP).
