Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A seminar “Actual issues of implementation of the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation in Uzbekistan and the obligations arising from it” was held on 23-24 January 2019 in Tashkent city.
The purpose of the seminar is to highlight the recommendations and procedures for implementation of the “WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation” (WTO SUPP), which is one of the mandatory agreements of the World Trade Organization. Taking into account the intensification of measures for the accession of Uzbekistan to the WTO, the issues of the implementation of the FCTC become of particular relevance.
The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the GIZ “Trade Facilitation in Central Asia” Program.
The seminar was attended by representatives of ministries and departments involved in the regulation of foreign trade, as well as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and business associations of Uzbekistan.
The importance of EMS is due to the fact that measures to simplify trade procedures are aimed at optimizing the processes of customs administration and can significantly reduce costs in the implementation of foreign trade operations. This contributes to increasing international competitiveness and enhancing the economic efficiency of the private sector. In addition, the Agreement provides for the involvement of representatives of the private sector in the process of identifying priority areas and developing recommendations for trade facilitation, which leads to increased reliability and feasibility of government decisions.
The workshop participants familiarized themselves with the main provisions and recommendations of the Agreement, discussed the impact of trade procedures on the cost of cross-border trade, and studied the experience of other countries in the implementation of the WTO SADT. The focus was on discussing issues related to the implementation of the Agreement in Uzbekistan, requirements for the accession process and potential implementation scenarios.
